Which Serengeti Region Should You Choose?
Northern Serengeti: July to October
The Northern Serengeti is best known for the Mara River crossings. During this period, large herds of wildebeest and zebra gather near the river while crocodiles and predators wait nearby.
Crossings are natural events and cannot be scheduled or guaranteed, but staying in the north places you close to the main migration routes during the peak season.
Southern Serengeti and Ndutu: December to March

The Great Migration Month by Month
The Great Migration is not a single event. It is a continuous seasonal movement through the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem, influenced by rainfall, grazing conditions and the availability of water.
December to March
The herds gather across the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains. This is the calving season and one of the most rewarding periods for predator sightings.
April to May
The wildebeest begin moving north and west through Central Serengeti as seasonal rains transform the landscape.
May to July
The herds move through the Western Corridor and approach the Grumeti River, creating dramatic concentrations of wildlife.
July to October
Large herds reach the Northern Serengeti and the Mara River. Crossings may occur during this period, although their exact timing cannot be predicted.
November
As the short rains arrive, the herds begin turning south toward Central Serengeti and the southern plains.
